Hernandez Elementary is now a Winter Wonderland
Hernandez Elementary is bursting with holiday spirit, and it shows. The school has had a friendly competition that involves the decoration of each of its hallways by different groups of students and teachers with help from the parents, of course, and the results are sure to make both Mr. and Mrs. Claus proud.

“This year, we decided to have a competition for all of our teachers and our students and some of our parents chipped in and decorated each hallway,” said Jennifer Gonzalez, Hernandez Elementary principal. “It’s just become a winter wonderland at Hernandez.”
The school does a hallway decorating competition each month, but the Christmas competition was exceedingly ornate.
“For the holidays, they went a little bit extra and overboard, and it’s beautiful,” Gonzalez said, adding a lighthearted joke. “We could probably charge admission here if we wanted to because it’s like Santa’s Wonderland.”
The parent volunteers were particularly excited about the competition, even donating materials in addition to their time.
“The parents are getting really excited about it. We’ve had a lot of parent volunteers come in to help decorate,” Gonzalez said. “I put it in my newsletters for parents to come in and help judge the competition as well.“ The hallways have remained a perfectly pristine Christmas scene since the decorations were put in place.
“[The students] are really enjoying them,” Gonzalez said. “They’re taking pride in it, and they just love looking at the decorations when they come in every day.”
After the holidays, the school will clean up the hallways and recycle as many of the materials as they can.
