Precinct 4 offices held an after-business-hours Brown Santa Party on Dec. 2, during which the county offices hosted guests from the Dripping Springs community and collected toys and food donations for Hays County Brown Santa.
The program, run by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, collects and distributes toys, money and food for economically disadvantaged families in Hays County during the Christmas Season.
“Last year Brown Santa helped 526 families, or about 1,800 children. And with the help of organizations like the Knights of Columbus, we expanded our reach to about 2,400 children,” Jordan said. “This year we have about 300 applications so far, but we are continuing to take applications up to 5 p.m. this Friday Dec. 6.”
This is Jordan’s first year as head of the program. He took over as head-elf from Lt. Dennis Gutierrez who retired from HCSO last year.
“Even though it’s my first year as chairman, it’s not my first year with Brown Santa,” Jordan said.
The program consists of volunteers from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and members of the community.
