Texas State continued their winning ways with a 88-42 win over the UNT-Dallas Trailblazers.

The Bobcats and Head Coach Zenarae Antoine have won their third straight game and imprrove their overall record to 5-3 overall.

“Moving forward for us, the word that just is flashing in my brain right now is discipline,” Antoine said. “We need to find ways to stay disciplined and that's really to me right now where I'm at with our team and program as far as that next step.

“Hats off to UNT Dallas. They had to play a game yesterday and they had to travel here to play us today while arguably their best player was out on concussion protocol. They gave us everything they had in the beginning of the game.”

UNT-Dallas battled Texas State hard in the first period and took a 8-6 lead with six minutes remaining in the period. The Bobcats answered with a 9-4 run to retake the lead back and go into the second quarter up 15-12.

The Trailblazers not only battled back in the second quarter but also cut the lead down to one possession at 26-25. Yet again, Texas State answered back, closing out the second quarter on a 9-0 run and entering halftime up 35-25.

Despite extending their deficit to double digits, Antoine still challenged her team to come out and improve from the first half.

“The team came out of halftime and they did just that,” Antoine said. “They showed discipline, they showed restraint, they showed want to and they showed understanding. There wasn't a lot of butt chewing going on at half. …
It was ‘hey, we got to chuck ourselves right now’. There’s an understanding and they responded. That means we are maturing as a team.”

For senior Destiny Terrell who led the team with 12 points, urgency and discipline was needed in the second half.

“We know what we needed to do in order to be a good ball club,” Terrell said
”But we weren't doing it. We just focused on [being] urgent and disciplined, doing everything we need to do, and knowing that we need all 15 of us.”

Senior Nicole Leff, who also had 12 points, talked about the need to have consistent urgency is one of the reasons the Bobcats are currently on a three-game winning streak, including having two wins on the road during the streak.

“Coming in out of halftime, we were urgent and that led to great results,” Leff said. “It's just us learning to have a consistent urgency every time we step out on the floor really leads us to really great wins.”

Texas State opened up the third quarter on a 14-2 run to lead 49-27. The Bobcats outscored UNT-Dallas 30-10 in the third quarter and entered the final period up 65-35.

The Bobcats cruised in the fourth quarter en route to the 88-42.

Texas State returns to play next Sunday on the road against the Denver Pioneers.
