Texas State will be heading back to Dallas for bowl season, playing in the First Responder Bowl against the North Texas Mean Green in their first meeting since 1994.

The Bobcats played in the First Responder Bowl last season in the program’s first ever bowl game where Texas State defeated the Rice Owls 45-21 for the team's first ever bowl win.

North Texas will play in their first bowl game since 2021 where the Mean Green qualified for the Frisco Football Classic. The Mean Green entered the First Responder Bowl with a 6-6 record.

The First Responder Bowl has been in existence since 2011 where the game was played at the Cotton Bowl Stadium before moving to the Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the campus at SMU in 2019.

This will be North Texas’ third appearance in the First Responder Bowl and Texas State’s second appearance. Both North Texas and Texas State are the only teams to have multiple appearances in the First Responder Bowl.

This year’s First Responder Bowl will also mark the first meeting between Texas State and North Texas since 1994 when both teams were members of the Southland Conference. It will be the 40th all-time meeting between the Bobcats and the Mean Green with North Texas leading the series 29-7-3.

Kickoff is set for Friday, Jan. 3rd at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
