Hays County issues corrected tax statements for Wimberley homestead properties

HAYS COUNTY TAX OFFICE

Hays County officials announced that several property tax statements for Homestead properties in the Wimberley area were mailed with incorrect tax ceiling data for the Independent School District. To correct the error, the Tax Assessor-Collector’s office is generating and mailing supplemental statements to the affected property owners.

In the meantime, property owners do not need to wait for the revised statements to take action. The corrected bills are already available online at the Hays County Tax Office website, where they can be viewed, printed and paid immediately.

“Hays County is working diligently to ensure the supplemental statements are sent out as soon as possible,” said Jenifer O’Kane, PCC, Tax Assessor-Collector. “For the 3,023 accounts impacted, those who have already paid the incorrect amount will receive a refund. The county clarified that overpaid funds will not be held in escrow but will be refunded directly to the property owners.”

At this time, the total amount of overpayments has not been determined. Property owners with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Tax Assessor-Collector’s office for assistance.

O’Kane also noted that if people paid their tax bills online, they paid the correct amount. When the incorrect tax bills were mailed, the office posted the error on their website and on the Hays County Texas Official Facebook page.

Hays County officials said it is committed to resolving this issue efficiently and appreciates the community’s patience as they work to correct the matter. For further information, visit the Hays County Tax Office website or contact their office directly.
