Texas State downs Tarleton in win

TXST WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Texas State won their second consecutive road game, beating the Tarleton State Texans 71-59.

The Bobcats improved their overall record to 4-3 overall.

Texas State started off hot in the first quarter, leading the Texans 10-4 following a layup from sophomore guard Taleiyah Gibbs.

Following a three-pointer from senior forward Nicole Leff with 13 seconds remaining in the period, the Bobcats entered the second quarter up 15-8.

Tarleton State responded by going on a 8-3 run to cut the Bobcats lead down to two at 18-16 in the beginning of the second quarter.

The Bobcats answered back with a 6-0 run capped off by a pair of free throws from Leff to push the lead up to 24-16.

Tarleton State was unable to get the lead back to a one-possession game as the Bobcats entered halftime up 29-21.

The Bobcats refused to back down in the third quarter and took their largest lead of the quarter at 47-31 following a layup from senior Jaylin Foster.

Texas State’s strong third quarter performance put Tarleton State in a hole too deep, allowing the Bobcats to take home the win at 71-59.

Gibbs led the team in scoring with 12 points followed by Foster with 10 and freshman guard Saniya Burks with 10.

Foster and senior guard Destiny Terrell both led the team in rebounds with seven apiece.

The Bobcats return home to San Marcos today at noon against the UNT-Dallas Jaguars..
