MARTINDALE TREE LIGHTING

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND?

The San Marcos Daily Record staff gives recommendations on what to do in our community

Martindale is having its 17th Annual Tree Lighting on from 5 to 8 p.m. today. The historic downtown buildings are all decorated for a fun touch. One of the highlights of the event is Santa riding through the neighborhoods in a Martindale Volunteer Fire Department truck. He and his elves will throw out bags of candy along the route. The kids can write their Christmas wish list and then deposit it in the Martindale Community Library’ book return box to ensure that it is received by Santa in a timely manner. If they have included a return address, then Santa’s elves — also known as library volunteers — will answer the letter. After Santa completes his route through town, he will climb aboard a Model T pickup to speak with children. Parents can take pictures of their child with Santa. Also, there will be vendors inside Crook’s Store, at 413 Main Street, which will be selling all kinds of items. Friends of the Library will be selling cookies, popcorn and hot chocolate as well.
