Crockett Elementary School is finishing a kindness-focused fundraising campaign called Raise Craze this week. During the fundraiser, students show their appreciation to donors by completing Acts of Kindness for others. At the end of the 18-day campaign, the students hope to raise $20,000.
“As of this morning,” Crockett Elementary Principal Analeasa Holmes said on Friday, “We’ve raised $11,554.”
In addition to raising money that will go toward grade-level field trips, teacher grants funding to help offset classroom costs and student incentives to recognize achievement, goals and graduation, the fundraiser encourages students to think of ways to help others.
“We’ve heard that this fundraiser has been beneficial in the classroom but also at home and in the community,” Janice Hardaway, Crockett Elementary PTO President, said. “Encouraging students to think outside of themselves and look to helping others promote good in the entire community.”
Within the time frame of the Raise Craze fundraiser, students have done everything from picking up their neighbor’s trash to saying hello to new friends at school and inviting them to play at recess. Several students wrote thank you letters to community members and decorated mailboxes to show gratitude to mail carriers.
“Today I had a group of kids cleaning the bathroom,” Holmes said. “It’s been really fun seeing the kids at school being kind to one another.”
“I really like being kind and raising money for my school in such a nice way,” Austen Page, a kindergartener at Crockett, said.
In addition to individual acts of kindness, the school partnered with a few local organizations in the San Marcos area. Students brought in donations for the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center, The Hays County Food Bank, and The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. They also donated gently used books for other students in the school to take home.
Upon the completion of the Raise Craze fundraiser, the students will celebrate Friday, Dec. 6th at their recess time. During the celebration, the students will witness their principal, Dr. Holmes, being silly-stringed by those who completed three or more acts of kindness. The top-performing classes will also enjoy popsicles and the teacher will enjoy an extended lunch break.
The PTA provides many educational initiatives for the students with this money, such as field trips, teacher grants and attendance incentives. To support Crockett Elementary School, please donate here: https://my.raisecraze. com/give/a8rq3hp/ or contact the school directly.
Principal Holmes said that even if community members are unable to give, sharing the above code on social media could help Crockett reach its goals. “Or just do something kind for someone,” Holmes said. “Pay it forward in keeping with the spirit of the fundraiser.”
