Lady Rattlers snap losing streak to Westwood Warriors

WEEKEND RECAP

The Lady Rattlers snapped a four-game losing streak to beat the Round Rock Westwood Warriors 40-34.

San Marcos improves their overall record to 9-5.

The Lady Rattlers jumped out to a great start, outscoring Westwood 18-9 in the first quarter.

Though the Warriors were able to slow down the Lady Rattler offense in the second quarter, the San Marcos defense held Westwood to just two points in the second quarter.

Going into halftime, San Marcos led Westwood 27-11.

Despite Westwood outscoring San Marcos in the second half, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Rattlers came away with the 40-34 win.

TEXAS STATE TAKES FIFTH PLACE AT THE MYRTLE BEACH INVITATIONAL 

After dropping their tournament opener to Bradley, the Texas State Men’s Basketball team won two straight to take fifth place at the Myrtle Beach Invitational.

The Bobcats improved their record to 4-3 overall.

In their Friday game, Texas State took on the Princeton Tigers of the Ivy League.

In a tough battle, Texas State defeated Princeton 83-80.

Senior forward Tyrel Morgan had a career high 27 points for the Bobcats while nabbing seven rebounds.

Sophomore point guard and former San Marcos Rattler Kaden Gumbs scored 17 points for the Bobcats while dishing out a team high seven assists.

Senior forward Tylan Pope nabbed a team high eight rebounds and was the third Bobcat to reach double figures in scoring with 14.

In the final game of the tournament, Texas State took on Ohio in the battle of the Bobcats.

Texas State came out on top once again, beating Ohio 74-65.

Pope recorded his first double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior forward Christian Turner was second in scoring with 13 points followed by Gumbs with 12.

Senior point guard Drue Drinnon was the fourth Bobcat to reach double figures in scoring with 11.

Morgan led the team in rebounds with 11.

Texas State will be on the road Sunday against Texas Southern.

RATTLERS FINISH CORPUS CHRISTI TOURNAMENT WITH WINNING RECORD 

The San Marcos boys basketball team finished out the Corpus Christi tournament with a winning record over the weekend.

After advancing to the gold bracket, San Marcos met the Boerne Greyhounds in the first game of the tournament.

The Rattlers were unable to overcome Boerne, losing to the Greyhounds 58-47.

Moving into the consolation side of the gold bracket, San Marcos met the Corpus Christi Carroll Tigers.

San Marcos was able to bounce back and defeated the Tigers 64-60 and advanced to the gold bracket consolation championship game.

In the consolation championship game, the Rattlers met the powerful The Woodlands College Park Cavaliers.

Though the Rattlers hung in with the Cavaliers for the majority of the game, San Marcos fell to College Park 76-64.
