Rattlers and Bobcats earn postseason honors

LOCAL VOLLEYBALL

Numerous Texas State and San Marcos volleyball players earned conference and district accolades over the week.

For the Rattlers, senior outside hitter Brinkley Reeves was named first team all-district. Reeves led the team in kills with 187 and set a new school record for most career kills. Reeves also led the team in digs with 113. Reeves will continue her volleyball career at the next level after signing with Stephen F. Austin.

Senior setter Grace Pactanac earned all-district honors after being named 2nd team. Pactanac led the team with 297 assists and surpassed 1,500 career assists this season.

Joining Pactanac on the all district 2nd team is junior middle blocker Melayna Perkins. Perkins led the team in blocks with 24 solo blocks and 28 total blocks. Perkins was also third in overall kills with the team along with a hitting percentage of .202% Earning honorable mention are senior Dani Bermea, junior Kylie Joseph and sophomore Harper McGee.

Over at Texas State, three Bobcat volleyball players earned all-conference honors.

Senior setter Ryann Torres was named the Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Year. Torres finished the regular season with 944 total assists for the Bobcats and surpassed 2,000 career assists during the season.

Along with being named Setter of the Year, Torres was named First Team All Sun Belt.

Joining Torres is junior middle blocker Jade Defraeye. Defraeye led the team in blocks during the regular season with 116. On offense, DeFraeye had 163 kills during the regular season while maintaining a hitting percentage of .378%.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Wunsch joins both Torres and Defraeye on the First Team All Sun Belt.

Wunsch led the team in kills with 358 during the regular season and maintained a hitting percentage of .306%. Wunsch also had 83 digs.

Texas State will continue their season at the Sun Belt Tournament in the hopes of winning both the tournament championship and the coveted automatic-bid to the NCAA Tournament.
