Texas State will play their final game of the season at UFCU Stadium when the Bobcats host the Georgia State Panthers.
The Bobcats and Head Coach G.J. Kinne are not taking the Panthers lightly despite their overall record.
“They are a really wellcoached team,” Kinne said. “When you look at the coaches, coordinators and players they have brought in, this is a good team. It’s a lot different from last week. I know their records are similar, but it’s a lot different situation, preparations and belief in their coaches.
“It’s going to be a good game, and those guys are going to come here ready to go.”
Georgia State enters the game with a 2-8 record, having lost seven straight games. Despite their seven game losing streak, four of the losses came within one possession.
In their last game, the Panthers lost to Arkansas State 27-20.
The Georgia State offense is led by quarterback Christian Veilleux. The junior quarterback from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada has passed for 1,557 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
One of Veilleux’s main targets this season in the passing game is wide receiver Ted Hurst. Hurst has caught 46 passes for 779 yards and nine touchdowns. Second in receiving for the Panthers is tight end Dorian Fleming, catching 42 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns.
In the rushing game, running back Freddie Brock has been the focal point, leading the team with 615 yards on 119 carries and three touchdowns.
Through 10 games, the Panthers have averaged 20.7 points per game.
On defense, the Panthers are led by safety Jeremiah Johnson who leads the team in both total and solo tackles. Johnson has made 55 total tackles and 30 solo tackles.
Through 10 games, the Georgia State defense has allowed an average of 31.4 points per game.
The history of the Texas State-Georgia State series dates back to the 2013 season when both the Bobcats and the Panthers joined the Sun Belt Conference.
In the first ever meeting between the two teams during the 2013 season, the Bobcats defeated the Panthers 24-17 who scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Texas State and Georgia State met again during the 2014 season with the Bobcats winning again 54-31.
Georgia State got their revenge in the 2015 season, beating Texas State 41-19 to spark a threegame winning streak against the Bobcats.
The streak came to an end during the 2018 season when the Bobcats defeated Georgia State 40-31.
The 2019 game is perhaps the most exciting game of the series with it being the first overtime game played between the two teams.
Texas State took advantage of a Georgia State missed field goal in double overtime to kick the game winning field goal to make the score 37-34.
The last meeting between the Bobcats and the Panthers took place during the 2021 season, ending with Georgia State winning 28-16. The all time series is currently tied at 4-4.
