Texas State snapped a two-game losing skid, defeating the Sul Ross State Lobos 99-65.

The Bobcats and Head Coach Zenarae Antoine improved their overall record to 2-2 for the season.

“There are definitely a lot of positives to take away from this game,” Antoine said. “There was an opportunity for everyone to truly see quality minutes. That’s a big piece of it.”

The Bobcats were led by senior forward Morgan Hill who scored a team high 20 points along with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.

“We are trying to focus on [urgency] with our offense and defense,” Hill said. “Just trying to guard our yard.”

Second in scoring for the Bobcats was senior forward Jaylin Foster with 16 points and nine points.

For Foster, the success for the Bobcat offense was a combination of both her and Hill taking advantage of the height difference against Sull Ross along with the guards being able to feed them down on the paint where the Bobcats scored 58 points.

“Just recognizing the mismatches,” Foster said. “Doing what we do best as us forwards and getting our guards on the same page. They did a good job of feeding us and allowing us to score when we could.”

Antoine was proud of her two senior forwards with their ability to finish and make the next pass.

“I thought our forwards did a really great job in this game,” Antoine said. “Obviously there was a height advantage, but it wasn’t just that; They did a better job of rim running, they did a great job of finishing. They were able to reverse the ball, or make that next pass.

“It wasn’t just that they were physically dominant, they were fundamentally sound.”

Texas State returns to play Friday night in a showdown with former conference rival Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks.

SFA is one of Texas State’s most played opponents with this week’s game being the 69th alltime meeting between the two teams. The last time the Bobcats and the Lumberjacks met came during the 2023 Women’s National Invitational Tournament where SFA won 89-79. The Lumberjacks led the all-time series 5711.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
