City of San Marcos Public Works crews recently completed a major cleanup operation to remove 20 cubic yards of trash and debris from a blocked outfall pipe near Hernandez Way. The blockage posed a significant threat to the health of the Blanco River.

“The City takes a proactive approach to stormwater maintenance, and this incident highlights the importance of regular inspections,” said Adam Rossing, San Marcos Public Works assistant director. “Our Stormwater Management team worked diligently to address this issue and protect our valuable waterways.”

The blocked outfall pipe was discovered during a routine quarterly inspection. Due to the site’s challenging location on a steep slope with limited access, the cleanup required careful planning and execution. Crews removed invasive trees to improve access and create space for native vegetation.

A team of dedicated workers, including Daniel Bolanos, Luis Delgado, Garrett Johnson, Mauricio Rodriguez, Rubin Dominguez, Ethan House, Scooter Law, Tommy Miller, Jarrod Ottinger, Joshua Skym, James Duncan, Chris Cavazos and Morgan Howard, worked tirelessly for two days to remove the debris. They used a variety of tools, including rakes, pitchforks, and even their hands, to clear the blockage. A skid loader was also brought in to transport the debris to a roll-off container.

Once the debris was removed, both ends of the pipe were secured to prevent future blockages and improper access. The successful completion of this project demonstrates the city’s commitment to environmental stewardship and public safety.
