WEEKEND RECAP

The San Marcos Boys Basketball team took third place over the weekend at the Austin High Tournament to capture their first wins of the season.

The Rattlers improved their overall record to 3-4.

The Rattlers advanced to the Gold Bracket semifinals after beating Austin High on Friday morning 66-51.

In the semifinals, the Rattlers met the Texas Lions Homeschool team. In a close game, San Marcos fell to the Lions 60-51 to move into the third place game.

In the third place game, the Rattlers met a familiar foe in the Dripping Springs Tigers. The Hays County neighbors met in the season opener with the Tigers beating the Rattlers 57-54.

This time, San Marcos flipped the script, beating Dripping Springs 47-33 to win third place at the Austin High Tournament. The Rattlers outscored the Tigers 26-13 in the second half to secure the win.

San Marcos will be back in tournament play this weekend, participating in the Corpus Christi tournament.

LADY RATTLERS BACK ON THE ROAD AFTER ALLEN HOOPFEST

The San Marcos Girls Basketball team returned home from Allen Hoopfest following a competitive tournament.

The Lady Rattlers faced the Frisco Wakeland Wolverines last Friday. Unfortunately, San Marcos was unable to capture the win, losing 53-35.

San Marcos then faced the Frisco Liberty Redhawks in the Lady Rattlers final game of the Hoopfest Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Rattlers were unable to beat the Redhawks, losing 5030.

San Marcos will look to snap their three-game losing streak in another showdown with the San Antonio Reagan Rattlers. San Marcos defeated San Antonio Reagan 38-24 during the Corpus Christi Riviera Roundup.

The game between San Marcos and Reagan will be completed before the San Marcos Daily Record time of press.

TEXAS STATE FALLS ON ROAD TO ACU

The Texas State Men’s Basketball team suffered their second straight loss of the season, falling to the Abilene Christian Wildcats 72-60.

The Bobcats drop their overall record to 2-2 for the season.

“Winning is tough and winning on the road is even tougher,” Head Coach Terrence Johnson said. “ACU is a good team with a championship culture we knew coming into the game. We never seemed to get settled tonight. They did a good job of dictating the flow and physicality of the game. We have to watch the film and get better. It is all about the response.”

Joshua O’Garro led the team in scoring with 23 points followed by Kaden Gumbs with 16 points.

O’Garro also grabbed 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Texas State will compete at the Myrtle Beach Invitational over the weekend.
