Rattlers and Lady Rattlers compete at tournaments

SMHS BASKETBALL

The Rattlers and the Lady Rattlers wrapped up their first day of play in their respective tournaments with both teams splitting their results.

LADY RATTLERS SPLIT OPENER AT ALLEN HOOPFEST The Lady Rattlers made the long trip up I-35 to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to play in the Allen Hoopfest tournament.

In their first game of the tournament, San Marcos met the Waco Midway Panthers.

The Lady Rattlers defeated Midway 58-47.

San Marcos played later in the night as the Lady Rattlers met the Dallas Lincoln Tigers who were 9-0.

Unfortunately for the Lady Rattlers, things didn’t go as planned. The Tigers outscored San Marcos 22-4 in the first quarter, leading to a 72-38 win for Dallas Lincoln.

RATTLERS WIN FIRST GAMES OF THE SEASON The Rattlers competed at the Austin High Tournament in search of their first win of the season.

In the first attempt, San Marcos met the Round Rock Dragons to start tournament play.

The Rattlers were unable to find their win as Round Rock defeated San Marcos 51-42.

Next, San Marcos met the Austin Savio Eagles.

The Rattlers jumped all over the Eagles, outscoring Savio 30-5 in the first quarter. San Marcos continued their torrent pace to capture their first win of the season, beating Savio 82-39.

On Friday morning, the Rattlers took on the tournament hosts — the Austin High Maroons.

San Marcos used a strong second quarter performance to secure the Rattlers second straight win, beating Austin High 66-51 and advancing to the Gold Bracket. San Marcos will conclude the tournament before the San Marcos Daily Record time of press.
