SAN MARCOS POLICE & FIRE
The San Marcos Police Department and San Marcos Fire Department will each host public events in Nov. updating the community on two projects funded through a bond election in May 2017. The projects, to renovate the San Marcos Police Department and develop the Fire Training Field Masterplan, were included in the city’s Public Safety Proposition and approved with 75.62% of votes cast in favor.
From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12, the San Marcos Police Department will host an open house to showcase the renovated facility. The $11.5 million project included updates to the existing 911 center, parking and drainage improvements, HVAC equipment replacements and construction of additional office spaces. The event will be interactive and include fingerprinting, K-9 and drone demonstrations.
On Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the San Marcos Fire Department will host a grand opening to celebrate completion of the first phase of the Fire Training Facility located at the San Marcos Regional Airport. The project began with development of the masterplan funded through the bond election, with the San Marcos City Council approving construction of the first phase of the facility in 2019. Once all future phases of the project are constructed, the facility will offer training for residential and highrise fires, rope and trench rescues, confined space rescues and vehicle extrications.
Voters also approved the San Marcos Library Expansion Proposition through the 2017 bond election. The project was completed in 2021 and included renovations of the existing facility, construction of additional meeting spaces and classrooms and expansion of the parking lot.
