Rattlers look for return trip to playoffs
The Rattlers will look to be back in the playoffs this season when San Marcos takes the court for the start of the 2024-25 season.
Last season the Rattlers finished the year with a 21-14 record but missed the playoffs in a tough 6A District 27.
During realignment, San Marcos moved into District 29 but were still paired with Cibolo Steele, Converse Judson, San Antonio East Central and Schertz Clemens while adding Buda Johnson and New Braunfels Canyon to the district.
The Rattlers return three starters from last year’s team in seniors Cash Good, Josiah Hollman and Donavan Riddick.
Playing at point guard, Good averaged 11.3 points per game and 5.9 assists for the Rattlers. Good also averaged 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals.

Senior Donovan Riddick returns as the leading scorer for the Rattlers with an average of 14.7 points per game. Daily Record photo by Gerald Castillo scoring average last season was Riddick with 14.7 points while averaging 6.7 rebounds. Riddick averaged 1.4 assists and steals last season. Hollman averaged 11.9 points per game and led the team in average rebounds with 7.4. Hollman also averaged 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals. Also returning for the Rattlers are seniors Rene Rodriguez and Sergio Gutierez.
Joining the varsity program are seniors Marqus Espinoza, Damian Lestourgeon and James Carr. Also joining are juniors Walter Howard, Xavian Balles and Peter Aguilar. Looking ahead, Judson will enter the season as the district favorite following their 21-14 season and a third place finish in district play. The Rockets are ranked No. 10 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state rankings. The Rattlers first home game of the season will be Tuesday, Nov. 12 against the Smithson Valley Rangers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
