SMHS GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

The Lady Rattlers won their first two games of the Corpus Christi Riviera Roundup tournament beating both the Corpus Christi King Mustangs and the McAllen Memorial Mustangs.

The Lady Rattlers improve to 4-0 on the season and advance to the Gold Bracket of the tournament.

San Marcos met the King Mustangs in the opening round of the tournament. The Lady Rattlers jumped all over the Mustangs in the first quarter, using their patent smothering defense. Going into the second quarter, San Marcos led 26-3.

King was unable to claw out the hole, as San Marcos went on to beat the Mustangs 84-19.

Later in the day, San Marcos met McAllen Memorial.

Similar to how the Lady Rattlers played against King, San Marcos’ defensive play flustered the Mustangs and held Memorial to just two points. Going into the second quarter, the Lady Rattlers were up 26-2.

McAllen Memorial was able to get their offense back on track in the second quarter, scoring 14 points but San Marcos continued their offense pace from the first quarter. Going into halftime, San Marcos led 43-16. The Mustangs were unable to put a dent in San Marcos’ lead as the Lady Rattlers went on to win 75-38.

On Friday, San Marcos played the Leander Lions in their first game of the gold bracket.

Once again, the Lady Rattlers continued their dominant play on defense and held the Lions to just 21 points in San Marcos 61-21 win over Leander.

The Lady Rattlers will continue play on Friday against the San Antonio Reagan Rattlers. The San Marcos-Reagan game will be completed before the San Marcos Daily Record time of press.

Full coverage of the Lady Rattlers performance at the Riviera Roundup will be covered in the Tuesday paper.

San Marcos will be back on the road this Tuesday Nov. 12 in a showdown with the Austin High Maroons.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
