SAN MARCOS ACADEMY
San Marcos Academy performing Seussical Jr.
For all the Whos down in Whoville, San Marcos Academy’s theatre presents “Seussical Jr., The Musical” opening Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Robinson Christian Center. Directed by SMA Theatre director, Marlana Perry, the play is the first all lower school production at San Marcos Academy.
“When I was asked to lead a lower school musical last year, I was thrilled by the idea of building more theater opportunities into our school. Directing a lower school musical opens up more chances for our students to engage with the arts,” Perry said. “Lower school students have stepped into larger roles and responsibilities in a show, and our upper school students have been able to work as leaders backstage. All of these opportunities provide life-long learning for these students on stage, behind the stage and in many other areas of their education and lives as well.”
Seussical itself is a delightful show. Not only will you be immersed in a Seuss-y story full of rhyme and lovable characters, you will see the largest of them all stand up for those who do not have a voice. Surrounding both the largest of larges and the smallest of smalls is a company of other kooky characters.
“Our students are so excited to bring these roles to life on stage. And we are hopeful that in attending, you walk away inspired, both by the amazing talent of our lower school students and how an evening of whimsy can make everything a bit brighter,” Perry said.
Additional showings of “Seussical Jr.” are Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child and can be purchased at smabears.org.
