Texas State completed their two-game sweep of Southern Miss, beating the Golden Eagles 3-0 [25-11, 25-18, 25-19].

The Bobcats and Head Coach Sean Hueit improved their record to 15-8 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

“I’m really excited with how we played,” Huiet said. “I liked that we maintained the level of play that we played last night. We challenged them with that. We know we’re getting to the end of our season, and we want to be playing our best in Nov. And we know in a couple weeks we’re going to need to string three days in a row. So to see that we could do that two days in a row gets me pretty fired up for the end of the season.”

After beating Southern Miss 3-0 [25-16, 25-10, 25-23] in their game on Friday, Texas State came out in the first set and dominated Southern Miss for a 25-11.

When Texas State dropped their home game against Arkansas State two weeks ago – despite winning the first game – the Bobcats have made it their mission to continue starting strong and improving in the serve and pass game.

“In the locker room, [we told ourselves] to just get it done and do what we did yesterday,” freshman outside hitter M.J. McCurdy said. “When we played Arkansas State and lost the second game, we didn’t come in strong with our serve and pass. So changing our mentality in the serve and pass game was important.”

The Bobcats continued their dominant play with a win in the second set 2518.

The third set turned into a competitive back and forth with both teams trading the lead.

Following a Golden Eagle kill, Southern Miss went up 16-14.

The Bobcats responded by going on a 8-0 run to take a commanding 2216 lead over the Golden Eagles en route to winning the third set 25-19.

Senior setter Ryan Torres credited the run on the serving game and praised the work of defensive specialist Alyssa Clark who had three serving aces during the run.

“It was our serving,” Torres said. “Alyssa Clark did a phenomenal job at that. At the beginning of the season, that was one of our weakest spots. In these past few weeks, building that confidence up behind the service line [was crucial]. Just we did what we needed to do.”

Texas State will be back on the road this Friday in a conference showdown with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Tip-off for Friday’s game is set for 5 p.m.
