First Tuesday SMTX will present the film documentary “Faders Up: The John Aielli Experience” on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Price Center in San Marcos.
The award-winning documentary takes viewers in a cinematic deep dive into the extraordinary life and career of Austin’s iconic KUTX radio host John Aielli, who is best known for his radio program, “Eklektikos.” With a legacy spanning over 50 years on air, Aielli remained enigmatic and controversial throughout his career. His profound influence on Austin’s musical diversity and cultural landscape is well documented by the film. It won the Music Documentary prize at South by Southwest in 2024 and the Best Texas Film award from the Hill Country Film Fest.
Following the film, there will be a question and answer period with film directors Sam Wainwright Douglas and David Hartstein and KUTX Program Director Matt Reilly. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Jason Mellard, Director of the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University.
The program is supported by the Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Tickets are $5. Doors open at 6:15 p.m, complementary pizza and drinks are served from 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7. The Price Center is located at 222 W. San Antonio St. in San Marcos. For more information about First Tuesday SMTX, visit firsttuesdaysmtx.com.
