San Marcos Academy’s comeback fell short against the Marble Falls Faith Flames, losing 40-33 in the low scoring affair for six-man football standards in the district opener.
The Bears trailed 2812 at halftime before outscoring the Flames 21-12 in the second half, However, the Flames second quarter run was just enough to put Faith over Academy in the loss for the Bears.
Junior Daniel Yates led the team in passing, completing six passes for 75 yards and one touchdown. Yates also rushed 24 yards on seven carries and one touchdown.
Sophomore Caleb Armstrong led the team in rushing with 11 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Rye Roberts rushed for 48 yards on six carries and one touchdown.
Senior Evan Donoso led the team in receiving with six catches for 49 yards and one touchdown.
The Bears will be back home this week in search of their first district win when Academy hosts the San Antonio Lutheran Mustangs.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
