Texas State came away with a important road win, beating the App State Mountaineers 1-0 The Bobcats and Head Coach Steve Holeman clinched their spot in the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Tournament and will enter their final regular season game still in second place in the conference overall.
“Road wins are never easy and today was no different,” Holeman said. “App State defended really well and their goalkeeper had some fantastic saves. We played very well today and created a lot of quality chances.
“It feels great to have officially clinched our spot in the Sun Belt Tournament. “Now we can focus on our final game of the regular season.”
The Bobcats and the Mountaineers battled to a scoreless draw in the first half. The Bobcats held App State to just one shot in the first half while Texas State was able to get nine shots off with four being on goal. However App State kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard with four saves as both teams entered the second half.
App State got their offense going in the second half with nine shots and three being on goal, but goalkeeper Katelyn Krisman kept the Mountaineers from reaching the back of the net with three saves.
In the 79th minute, Texas State still found themselves tied at 0-0 when the Bobcats were awarded with the corner kick.
The Bobcats took advantage of the corner when midfielder Kaylie Smith connected for the goal and gave Texas State the 1-0 lead.
App State furiously tried to answer back in the final ten minutes of the game, but the Bobcat defense turned away the Mountaineers to seal the 1-0 victory.
Texas State ends the regular season at home against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Halloween Night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
