A dramatic showdown between the Texas State Bobcats and the South Alabama Jaguars ended in a scoreless draw with both teams being rewarded one point each.

It was a disappointing tie for the Bobcats and Head Coach Steve Holeman who had a shot at clinching the Sun Belt West Division Title with a win.

“It was [an] unfortunate result for us,” Holeman said. “It could have gone either way, and South Alabama is the defending champs. It’s why they own a 10-1-2 record over Texas State. We were controlling our own division title and that fell by the wayside. Just a disappointing feeling right now.”

The Bobcats had nine shots against the Jaguars with three being on goal, but none could find the back of the net. It is the second game in a row that Texas State has been shutout.

As the Bobcats prepare to make a long road trip to App State, Texas State will look to get their offense back to work.

“Just having composure in the box,” Holeman said. “Our services have been good and our organization is good — though it can be better. It’s just a matter of finding that final piece to it. We are creating good chances, and it is just a matter of putting those away.”

While the offense had their struggles, the defense was able to hold the Jaguars to 12 shots with only three being on goal. Goalkeeper Katelyn Chrisman finished the game with three saves and was awarded the shutout.

Despite playing with limited numbers, Holeman was proud of the Bobcats’ defensive play.

“Our defense was great,” Holeman said. “[South Alabama] has a pretty good attack. It was a tale of two halves, and we were the better team in the first half. They certainly took it to us in the second half. We were a little thin on subs, but [I’m] not making any excuses. It would have helped, and it showed our depth today. We will have some of those players back, which will make a difference.”

Texas State will be on the road Sunday in a showdown with the App State Mountaineers. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
