San Marcos has a bounty of carnivals, markets and festivals set for this weekend. First up on Friday is Farmer Fred’s Harvest Fall Carnival, a favorite yearly event for families featuring games, treats and fall-themed freebies. Farmer Fred’s also hosts a costume contest consisting of four categories: cutest, spookiest, best group and Farmer Fred’s Choice. Pre-registration for the costume contest is required, so visit sanmarcostx.gov/3255/Farmer-Freds-Carnivals and click on the online signup link. The Fall Carnival runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be held at City Park. On Saturday, Green Heron Bookshop will hold a Halloween Makers Market from 11 to 4 p.m. featuring artists, musicians, treats, tarot and vintage goods. From there, head to Wake the Dead for its Kids Halloween Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. with games and prizes. Wrap up your pre-Halloween Saturday at Roughhouse Brewing with Mermaid Society SMTX. The mermaids will be in the beer garden to hand out candy and pose for photos.
