The San Marcos Academy Bears start district play on the road in a showdown with the Marble Falls Faith Flames in the district opener for both teams.

With only two teams from district advancing to the playoffs, the winner of the Academy-Faith game will have a leg up in both the race for the postseason and the district championship.

The Flames enter their showdown against the Bears with a 2-5 overall record. Faith’s wins come against Runge and Nueces Canyon.

Last week, Faith lost a thriller to the No. 6 Cherokee Indians in a 99-93 defeat for the Flames.

Series history between Academy and Faith is brief with the first meeting coming in 2020 during the Bears’ first season in six-man football.

Academy recorded their first ever six-man football win over the Flames in a thrilling 40-38 win over Faith.

The two teams met again during the 2021 season with the Bears and the Flames being placed in the same district.

Faith avenged their 2020 loss with a 46-36 win over the Bears that helped clinched the district title for the Flames.

During the season, both teams played in their respective state championships with Faith playing in the TAPPS D2 Six-Man title game and Academy in the TAPPS D1 Six-Man title game.

The series went on hiatus during both the 2022 and 2023 seasons until both teams were placed in the same district for the 2024 season.

Kickoff for Academy- Faith is set for tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Marble Falls.
