Former Texas State softball pitcher Jessica Mullins was named the 2023-2024 Sun Belt Conference Female Athlete of the Year as part of the conference fall meetings.
Mullins is the first female athlete to win the athlete of the year award and the third Bobcat athlete to win following Nijal Pearson [2019-2020] and Tristan Stivors [2021-2022].
“Words can’t describe how honored and blessed I feel to have received this valuable of an award,” Mullins said. “I want to thank God, my family, my coaches, my teammates and everyone who I’ve crossed paths with during my past four years at Texas State. I wouldn’t be the person I am today and be achieving this without their unwavering support. I am and will forever be proud to be a Bobcat through and through.”
In her final season at Texas State, Mullins helped lead the Bobcats to the Sun Belt Tournament title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Texas State made it to the regional final before falling to Texas A&M.
Mullins finished the season with a 31-9 overall pitching record along with four saves, 222 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.45. Mullins is just the third pitcher in Bobcat softball history to finish the season with at least 30 wins following Nicole Neuerberg in 2003 and Randi Rupp in 2016.
Mullins was named the 2024 Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year and was first-team All-American.
Mullins currently plays professional softball in the Women’s Professional Fastpitch league for the Texas Smoke, where she was named to the All WPF All-Star Team in her first season.
