WEEKEND RECAP
The Rockets felt the Rattlers’ venom Friday as the San Marcos volleyball team came away with a massive district win by sweeping the Judson Rockets 3-0 [25-11, 2514, 25-19].
The Rattlers improve to 16-16 overall and 4-6 in district play.
San Marcos will host the Cibolo Steele Knights with the playoffs on the line. A win by the Rattlers will force a tiebreaker game for both fourth place and the final playoff spot.
With playoffs being split up into divisions – the bigger schools will go into the Division I bracket and the smaller schools into the Division II bracket – the winner of San Marcos and Steele will also determine which team goes to which playoff bracket.
The Rattlers will host Cibolo Steele on Tuesday after the San Marcos Daily Record’s time of press. The full game recap will be covered in the Thursday paper.
BOBCATS UNBEATEN STREAK SNAPPED BY ODU
Texas State soccer saw their 10-match winning streak come to an end last Friday, as the Bobcats fell to the Old Dominion Monarchs 2-0.
Despite the loss, Head Coach Steve Holeman was proud of the team.
“I thought we played a really good game tonight and had the run of play for a majority of the match,” Holeman said. “Old Dominion played really well defensively and managed everything we threw their way. I was happy with our effort, and we have a lot to build on from this game.”
Texas State had 11 total shots during the game with six being on-goal, but the Monarchs were able to stop the Bobcats from reaching the back of the net.
Texas State also shut out ODU in the first half, but two goals in both the 45th and 50th minutes sealed the Bobcats’ fate.
The Bobcats will be back home this Thursday in a massive showdown with the South Alabama Jaguars.
The Bobcats hold a one point advantage over the Jaguars in the Sun Belt West Division standings. The winner of Thursday’s game will take the division title.
Texas State will host South Alabama Thursday Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
