Academy falls to Valor Prep in offensive shootout

SMA FOOTBALL

San Marcos Academy fell in their road nondistrict game to the Waco Valor Prep Academy Knights 73-47.

The Bears fell to 2-5 overall.

Freshman Major Howard passed for 135 yards and four touchdowns for the Bears with sophomore Rye Roberts catching two of those four touchdowns along with four catches for 97 yards. Roberts also passed for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Roberts led the team in rushing with 14 carries for 176 yards and one touchdown to pull off the rare trifecta of having at least one rushing touchdown, one passing touchdown and one receiving touchdown.

Sophomore David Followell was second in receiving with two catches for 44-yards and two touchdowns. Junior Daniel Yates and senior Evan Donoso each caught a touchdown as well.

Academy will enter district play in the hopes of making the playoffs for the fifth straight time since making the transition to six-man football.

The Bears will be on the road against the Marble Falls Faith Flames at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 in the district opener.
