Texas State dropped their Saturday home game against Arkansas State, losing to the Red Wolves 3-1 [19-25, 2517, 25-15, 25-14].
The loss was a frustrating one for both the Bobcats and Head Coach Sean Huiet after Texas State swept Arkansas State 3-0 [2523, 25-17, 25-20] the day before.
“[It was] frustrating,” Huiet said. “Kudos to Arkansas State. They played a clean match, frustrated us and we couldn’t recover. They beat us in the servepass game. It was all downhill from there. Just frustrated.”
In the first set, the Bobcats went up 3-0 and failed to relinquish the lead. Despite Arkansas State’s best efforts, Texas State held off the Red Wolves to win the first set 25-19.
The Red Wolves stormed back in the second set to lead 7-4 before going on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 14-4 lead.
The deficit was too much for the Bobcats to overcome, as Texas State fell in the second set 2517.
In the third set, both the Red Wolves and the Bobcats traded the lead back and forth with neither holding a lead larger than three points.
Texas State cut the Red Wolves lead down to 1413 before Arkansas State went on a 8-0 run to lead 22-13. Once again the deficit was too much to overcome as the Bobcats fell 25-15.
The fourth set was another battle between the Bobcats and the Red Wolves who traded the lead. Texas State led at 13-12 but Arkansas State went on a 13-1 run to both win the fourth set 25-14 and win the game 3-1.
Sophomore Samantha Wunsch and freshman Emmerling Caelyn both led the team in kills with 12. Freshman M.J. McCurdy and senior Alyssa Ortega led the team in digs with 15. Senior setter Ryann Torres led the team in assists with 35.
The Bobcats will be back on the road this week in a showdown with the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks.
