Texans knockout Jarrell to stay undefeated in district

The Texans notched another district win on their belts with a dominating 41-8 win over the Jarrell Cougars.

The Texans improved their record to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in district play.

Wimberley struck first as quarterback Cody Stoever hit wide receiver Jace Cutrona on the 16-yard touchdown to put the Texans up 7-0. Kicker Bo Holeman added on the extra point attempt.

The Code Red Defense backed up the offense by forcing a punt, including a massive tackle on third down by outside linebacker Reid Leinneweber.

Following the Jarrell punt, the Texans struck again. On third down at the Texan 43-yard line, Stoever found running back Maverick Jacobs on the out-pass before Jacobs turned up field to score a 57-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0.

The Code Red Defense forced another Cougar punt as Wimberley looked to add on another touchdown right before the end of the first quarter.

The Texans drove down to the Jarrell three-yard line before Stoever hit wide receiver Nolan Waida in the back of the endzone to extend the lead 21-0.

Going into the second quarter, the Texans forced another Jarrell punt to once again give the ball back to the Texan offense.

Wimberley drove down to the Jarrell 23-yard line before Stoever threw his fourth touchdown pass of the first half to wide receiver Jace Morales, extending the lead to 27-0.

The Cougars finally got a muched need touchdownm scoring on a 50yard run to cut their deficit to 27-8.

In the third quarter, Jarrell attempted to go for it on fourth down from their own 44-yard line. However, the Code Red Defense stuffed the Cougars and gave the ball back to the offense.

The Texans drove the ball to the one-yard line before Stoever plunged it in for the score and extended the lead to 34-8.

Stoever later scored another touchdown in the second half to make the final score 41-8.

Stoever passed for 252 yards and four touchdowns with Waida leading the team in receiving with six catches for 66 yards and one touchdown. Jacobs was second with 63 yards receiving on two catches and one touchdown.

Morales was third with three catches for 59 yards and one touchdown.

Running back Josh Belanger led the team in rushing with seven carries for 40 yards.

Wimberley returns home this Friday in a showdown with the Gonzales Apaches.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Texan Stadium.
