STACK THE MAC

STACK THE MAC

HAYS COUNTY FOOD BANK

Hays County food bank raises ton of mac & cheese

Hays County Food Bank raised more than one ton of Mac and Cheese to fight hunger.

The food bank challenged the community to donate the most popular orangecolored food in honor of Hunger Action Month. Their supporters throughout Hays County exceeded expectations by donating 2,694 pounds to the Stack the Mac campaign in September.

Hunger Action Month is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger in America and inspire action. Every September, Hays County Food Bank goes orange to show our support and raise awareness. Food should not be an impossible choice, but for thousands of foodinsecure Hays County residents, choosing between food and other necessities is the reality. This year the food bank took the assignment literally and turned their social media, their shirts and even their food drives orange.

With the conclusion of the campaign, the food bank has raised more than 13,500 servings of mac and cheese that will be redistributed to the community through direct food assistance and community food pantries.

Now that Hunger Action Month and the Stack the Mac campaign have ended, Hays County Food Bank is preparing for its next big objective — supplying 1,500 households in Hays County with a traditional holiday meal for Thanksgiving. The 18th Annual Turkeys Tackling Hunger Campaign aims to gather financial support for the purchase of turkeys and all the fixings for a comforting meal for friends and family to gather around. Contributions are vital to the success of this program.

If one would like to support this campaign please reach out to Kelley Carter by email at kcarter@haysfoodbank. org or by phone at 512392-8300 extension 230. In 2023, Hays County Food Bank and its 31 Last Mile Sites distributed over 1.3 million pounds of food to food-insecure households. On average, 8,900 individuals were provided food assistance each month. These residents were senior citizens, children and many others facing economic challenges. Hays County Food Bank is a not-forprofit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its mission.
