Bobcat volleyball suffers first conference loss

WEEKEND RECAP

Texas State suffered their first conference loss of the season dropping both games to the South Alabama Jaguars.

In their first game against South Alabama on Friday, the Bobcats fell to the Jaguars 3-1 [25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 25-19].

Freshman outside hitter M.J. McCurdy led the team in kills with 13, followed by sophomore outside hitter Samantha Wunsch with 12 and freshman outside hitter Caelyn Emmerling with 11.

Senior setter Ryann Torres led the team in assists with 37 and digs with 20 to complete the double-double. McCurdy also completed the double-double with 14.

In the second game on Saturday, Texas State fell to South Alabama 3-1 [26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21].

Wunsch and senior middle blocker Jade Defraeye led the team in kills with 11.

Torres led the team in assists with 38.

The pair of losses dropped the Bobcats out of first place in the Sun Belt West Division and a game behind the Arkansas State Red Wolves for first place.

Texas State will have a chance to reclaim their spot at the top this weekend as the Bobcats host Arkansas State in a two-game series.

The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday. The second game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Both games will be played at Strahan Arena in San Marcos.

RATTLERS SWEPT BY CLEMENS 

San Marcos was swept by the Clemens Buffaloes 3-0 [25-8, 25-23, 25-20].

The Rattlers fall to 1416 overall and 2-6 in district play.

Senior Brinkley Reeves led the team in kills with 10 followed by junior Kylie Joseph with five and junior Melayna Perkins with four.

Joseph led the team in blocks with three while sophomore Harper McGee led the team in digs with six.

Senior Grace Pactanac led the team in assists with 18.

The Rattlers will look to rebound at home against the East Central Hornets. The game was played on Tuesday after the San Marcos Daily Record’s time of press. The full game recap will be covered in the Thursday paper.
