We already know San Marcos is a special place, but geographically- speaking, we happen to be at the heart of an important flyway for migrating birds and bugs, including the monarch butterfly. For this reason, I look forward to Saturday’s seasonal event - The Monarch Festival and Native Plant Sale - because it celebrates and fosters knowledge about how vital these migrating birds and pollinators are to our region. The San Marcos Discovery hosts this event to illustrate what the city of San Marcos is doing to help pollinators thrive in Central Texas. The Native Plant Sale helps budding gardeners build a butterfly- friendly sanctuary to ensure safe passage on their journey south.
Come to the Discovery Center Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this free, family-friendly event. Pick up some plants, spy on some butterflies and learn about how every small effort we make can have a lasting impact on our planet.
