San Marcos celebrates the indigenous peoples who have inhabited this area for over 11,000 years with the Sacred Springs Powwow at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, this annual gathering will feature all kinds of exciting and educational events, from native dancing, drumming and flute performances to workshops on the Coahuiltecan Language Program and healing through the native plants of the Spring Lake area. Then on Sunday, chill out with local artist Big Bunce as he hosts his monthly Family Art Jam from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you haven’t been out to Bunce’s art studio at 1401 Prospect, definitely drop by. The family art jam is a cozy, welcoming creative experience with a garden gallery, refreshments, live mural painting, a bake sale and local guest artists. Like the powwow, it has a truly San Marcos vibe you just can’t find anywhere else.
