The Texans snapped a two-game losing streak as Wimberley defeated the rival Navarro Panthers 47-21 in the district opener for both teams.

“I am pleased with how we performed,” Head Coach Doug Warren said. “It is always a tough place to play over there against a good football team. We jumped out on them, got off to a really good start and put it away really early. But I’m pleased with the win, and it’s always good to get the first district win underneath your belt. The goal is to win a district championship, and we are sitting at the top with a couple of other district teams where we want to be.”
Wimberley started the game off with a bang as wide receiver Nolan Waida took the jet sweep and ran for a 60-yard touchdown to put the Texans up 6-0.
Getting the ball back, the Texans struck again as quarterback Cody Stoever scored on an eightyard touchdown, extending the lead to 12-0.
The Texans added one last touchdown before the second quarter when Stoever hit Waida for a 30-yard touchdown pass with kicker Bo Holeman adding the extra point, extending the lead at 190.
In the second quarter inside the Navarro 20yard line, Stoever found wide receiver Keith Cook for a 12-yard pass before the Panthers forced a fumble. However, the Texans jumped on the ball in the endzone, allowing Wimberley to score the touchdown and extend their lead to 26-0.
In the third quarter, Navarro found their first points of the game on a rushing touchdown only for the Texans to have a bigger response.
With the ball at midfield, Stoever handed the ball off to wide receiver Jace Morales on the jet sweep before Morales scored on the 50-yard touchdown run, making it a 33-7 game following a Holeman kick.
Stoever later found Waida again on a 23 yard touchdown pass to push the lead out to 39-7.
The Texans tacked on their final touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter as Wimberley made the final score 4714.
Wimberley rushed for 288 yards on 26 carries with Stoever leading the way with six carries for 72 yards and one touchdown. Waida and Morales both carried the ball just once but scored on a 60-yard touchdown and a 52-yard touchdown. Running back Josh Belanger carried the ball seven times for 44 yards.
Stoever also passed for 152 yards and three touchdowns with Waida leading the team in receiving with two catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
The Texans return home this Friday in a showdown with the Salado Eagles. The Eagles are looking to rebound following their 34-24 loss to Lago Vista last week.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Texan Stadium in Wimberley.
