City Council postponed for National Night Out

CITY OF SAN MARCOS

The San Marcos City Council meeting is postponed until Wednesday so that residents may enjoy National Night Out, according to the city of San Marcos. The meeting preview will be published in tomorrow’s paper.

National Night Out is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch and other anti-crime efforts. Both Hays County Sheriff's Office and San Marcos Police Department are among the agencies participating. This is an opportunity to demonstrate neighborhood unity, raise awareness about crime prevention and strengthen law enforcement-community partnerships.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight, residents are encouraged to turn on their outside lights and spend the evening with neighbors, law enforcement and first responders. Many neighborhoods will host a range of special events including block parties, cookouts, contests, youth activities and more.

Participating neighborhoods for the San Marcos Police Department include:

• 6 to 8 p.m. Chapultepec/ East Guadalupe — 701 South LBJ Drive

• 6 to 8 p.m. Millview West — 1201 Thorpe Lane

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Retreat on Willow Creek — 517 Hunters Hill Drive

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sadler House Apartments —
