The rivalry between San Marcos and Buda will add another chapter as the Rattlers will battle the Johnson Jaguars in the first ever meeting between the two Hays County Schools.
It will be the district opener for both teams who look to get a leg up in heated race to the playoffs.
The Rattlers are coming off a tough 62-12 loss to the Lake Travis.
Johnson is coming off their first loss of the season to rival Dripping Springs in the Battle of Onion Creek where both teams combined for over 900 yards of offense.
Johnson enters their showdown vs San Marcos with a 3-1 overall record. The Jaguars have recorded wins over Round Rock Cedar Ridge, Round Rock Stony Point and Austin High.
The Jaguars are led by their ground attack, which has rushed for 1,248 yards as a team.
Leading the charge is senior running back Kael Hatnot. Hatnot leads the team in rushing with 562 yards on 84 carries on 10 touchdowns.
While the Jaguars and the Rattlers will meet for the first time, the history between San Marcos and Buda has long been documented, dating back to the Battle of Hays County between Hays and San Marcos.
Kickoff for San Marcos- Johnson is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Bob Shelton Stadium in Buda.
