Rattlers fall short against Clemens in district play

San Marcos fell in their second district game of the season, losing to the Clemens Buffaloes 3-1 [2325, 25-11, 25-17, 25-22].

The Rattlers fell to 12-12 overall and 0-2 in district, following their 3-1 loss to Buda Johnson, as they look to regroup this Friday in search of their first district win.

The first set was a furious back and forth with both teams trading the lead. As the game remained tied at 13-13, the Rattlers were able to break through.

A 4-0 run by San Marcos put the Rattlers ahead 1713, but the Buffaloes made their own comeback to tie the game at 20-20.

Clemens jumped out to a 23-21 lead but San Marcos responded with a 4-0 to take the first set at 25-23.

The second set was just as competitive as Clemens led 7-6. The Rattlers made it a 9-7 game before the Buffaloes went on a 9-0 run and took a commanding 18-7 lead. Clemens went on to win the second set 25-11.

San Marcos fell behind in the third set leading Clemens to take the set at 25-17.

Down 2-1, the Rattlers looked to make their comeback in the fourth set.

San Marcos jumped out to a 10-4 lead but Clemens again made their comeback and tied the game at 12-12.

The Buffaloes extended their lead to 17-13 but the Rattlers made a 5-1 run to tie it back up at 18-18.

San Marcos briefly held the lead at 19-18 but a 3-0 run by Clemens allowed the Buffaloes to go up 2119. The Rattlers were unable to overcome the deficit and dropped the fourth set at 25-21.

The Rattlers will look to regroup on the road this Friday against the East Central Hornets. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at East Central.
