San Marcos’ quest for the program’s fifth consecutive playoff berth starts this week as the Rattlers begin district play.
Moving into District 29, the Rattlers were joined by Cibolo Steele, Converse Judson, East Central and Schertz Clemens from last year’s district. Joining District 29 is the duo of Buda Johnson and New Braunfels Canyon.
Both Johnson and Canyon enter district play with two best records of District 29.
The Jaguars come in with a record of 26-6 and the No. 18 state ranking. Johnson has wins over Austin Bowie, San Antonio Davenport, Austin Anderson, Lake Travis and Duncanville.
New Braunfels Canyon comes into district play with a 20-11 overall record.
The Cougars have notched wins over San Antonio Reagan, New Braunfels, San Antonio Brandeis and Austin Vandergrift.
Following both Canyon and Johnson, San Marcos and East Central come into district play with the best overall record.
The Hornets are 16-11 while the Rattlers come into district play with a 12-10 record.
Steele and Clemens entered districts with records of 13-20 and 1515. Judson came into district with a 7-19.
The past two seasons of district play have been nothing short of exciting, and this year is expected to be no different.
The 2023 season saw a three way tie for first place while the Rattlers defeated East Central to qualify for the playoffs in a tiebreaker game. In the 2022 season, San Marcos finished in fourth place only two games out from second place.
San Marcos will be home 7 p.m. Tuesday night against Clemens
