A SATURDAY OF INCLUSIVE CELEBRATIONS

Our Town

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND?

The San Marcos Daily Record staff gives recommendations on what to do in our community

This Saturday is the Hispanic Heritage Walk. The creator of the walk, Lucy Gonzalez, quoted Cesar Chavez who said, “Preservation of one’s own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.” So Hispanic or not, come out and support the community. There will be a proclamation read by San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson and San Marcos City Manager Stephanie Reyes at Centro Cultural Hispano, located at 211 Lee Street, at 10 a.m. followed by the walk that will end at the Hays County Historic Courthouse lawn where there will be vendors, food and music. Also, San Marcos celebrates Pride in Sept. since the students are actually in town, unlike the usual Pride that occurs in June. Lucky for you, there are events all day on Saturday, so you can celebrate Hispanic Heritage and Pride, if you want. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Crossroads Memorial located at the intersection of LBJ Drive and MLK drive. There will be a Pride proclamation at 11 a.m. at the Railyard followed by a live performance by Los Gatos 512 at 12 p.m., a drag show at 3 p.m. and the closing Pride celebration at 6 p.m.
