TXST, SMCISD launch innovative Dual Credit Program for High School students

LOCAL SCHOOLS

In a groundbreaking initiative designed to enhance educational opportunities and prepare students for future success, Texas State University and San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District are thrilled to announce the launch of a new dual credit program for 11thand 12th-grade students. This forward-thinking partnership, envisioned by TXST President Kelly Damphousse and SMCISD Superintendent Michael Cardona, aims to provide local high school students with the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school, setting them on a path to true college and career readiness.

The partnership between TXST and SMCISD is designed to offer students a unique educational experience by allowing them to take advanced courses at Texas State University. This initiative will provide students with access to higher education resources, faculty expertise, and a college-level curriculum that is both challenging and enriching.

This dual credit program represents just the beginning of a broader vision to expand student opportunities in the coming years. Both Texas State University and San Marcos Consolidated ISD are committed to growing this partnership to offer an even wider array of courses and resources, ensuring that more students can benefit from this transformative educational experience.

In a post online, Damphousse called the partnership “historic” and a “win-win” for both institutions.

At the recent signing ceremony at Texas State University, Cardona said, “By collaborating with Texas State University, we are providing our students with unprecedented opportunities to prepare for college and careers. This program aligns perfectly with our mission to ensure all students have the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”
