The Rattlers captured their first wins of the season as San Marcos participated in the Katy-Cy Fair Tournament in Houston.
San Marcos was put into a four team pool, along with the Katy Tigers, Cy-Ranch Mustangs and the Klein Cain Hurricanes, with the matches being a best-of-three series instead of the standard best-of-five.
The Rattlers faced Katy in their first game of the Tournament.
San Marcos battled Katy in a close first set before dropping the first 25-18. The Rattlers again pushed the Tigers in the second but, ultimately, could not pull off the win, losing 25-21.
The Rattlers did not have time to rest as San Marcos played Cy-Ranch in the very next game.
San Marcos dropped the first set to the Mustangs 25-14 before dropping the second set at 25-14.
The Rattlers closed out pool play against the Hurricanes.
San Marcos put away their two losses and rebounded to dominate the first set against Klein Cain 25-8.
Despite the Hurricanes best efforts, the Rattlers slammed the door on a Klein Cain comeback and won the second set 25-14 to capture their first win of the season.
San Marcos moved to the second round of pool play and placed in a three team group with the A&M Consolidated Tigers and the Katy Mayde Creek Rams.
The Rattlers opened up pool play with the Rams, and San Marcos won the first set 25-17. The Rattlers once again did not allow their opponents to make a comeback and defeated the Rams once more at 25-18.
San Marcos then met A&M Consolidated with the winner taking first place in pool play.
The Rattlers dropped their first set against the Tigers 25-17 and looked rebound in the second set. San Marcos was unable to complete a comeback and fell in the second set 25-11.
San Marcos will advance to Saturday’s games, which started after the Daily Record’s time of press.
