On Wednesday, my son and his partner announced that they are getting married! He’s in the process of applying for master’s degree programs overseas, and they want to apply for their passports with their new names. Therefore, this weekend, we will be running around San Marcos looking at lovely parks and venues for an autumn wedding. Our short list includes The Tree of Life at Thompson’s Island, Cypress Island in Rio Vista Park, the Gazebo in Plaza Park (a personal favorite since that is where my husband and I got married two years ago) and the massive oak at the entrance of Purgatory Natural Area. Since my son moved to Austin two years ago, we will also make stops at his favorite local spots — The Pita Shop for lunch, Wake the Dead for coffee and dessert and Green Heron Books, because we haven’t made it into Wade Vettiver’s new location at 504 Burleson. It will be a whirlwind of weekend wedding planning fun.
