Following his rise to the No. 1 spot on the Texas charts, independent country artist Ryder Grimes will play Cheatham Street Warehouse on Aug. 17.
Grimes’ latest single, “8 Seconds at a Time,” marks the artist’s second consecutive No. 1 hit. A native of the northeast Texas town of Poetry, Grimes has put in the work to grow his fanbase across the state by writing songs that blend heartfelt lyrics with a traditional country sound.
As most Texans can guess, “8 Seconds at a Time” is a song about rodeo life.
“The lyrics describe the pain of losing, but in the end when you win — it’s the greatest feeling ever, in my opinion,” Grimes said. “You can relate it to a lot of things in life, not just rodeoing.”
Grimes’ latest success comes on the bootheels of a big year. In the first half of 2024, Grimes received the New Male Vocalist award at the Texas Regional Radio Awards and also secured sponsorships with four companies: R. Watson Boots, Ranch Fuel Energy, COWI Brand apparel and Cowboys Trailers and Ranches.
“It means a lot to be recognized by companies that I love and to know that they like what I am doing and want to partner with me — that’s cool,” Grimes said.
Grimes credits his success to hard work, a strong team and his dedication to growing as a songwriter. Country music legend Toby Keith kindled inspiration in Grimes in regards to writing songs.
“Toby once said, ‘Anything can be a song. If you see something inspiring, put it in your pocket so you always have something to pull out and write.’ That advice stuck with me,” Grimes said. “We all have those songs that mean a lot to us, and a lot of those songs came from guys and gals who poured their heart and soul out into the music they wanted to write and play — and that’s my goal. I just want to write great songs and put out good music.”
As part of his summer tour, Grimes will play San Marcos’ legendary Cheatham Street Warehouse on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 and available online at cheathamstreet.com. Check out Grimes’ music at rydergrimesmusic.com or on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
