Calling All Instrumentalists

Rehearsals reconvene for the Aquarena Springs Symphonic Band. The group will be reading new charts in preparation for spring and summer performances.

The community band is welcoming experienced wind and percussion players with high school experience and beyond.

No audition required, only a desire to play music.

Life Long Learning: Register Now!

San Marcos Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Life Long Learning of San Marcos is once again offering new Life Long Learning courses for the greater San Marcos area. The classes are primarily for those age 60 and above, but adults of any age are welcome to register. To REGISTER or for more information on the classes, please stop by the Activity Center at 501 East Hopkins, Call 512-393-8280 or visit sanmarcostx. gov/activeSMTX and search LLL for Life Long Learning courses. A minimum number of registrants is required for these classes to make.

Turtle Tuesdays

When: Every Tuesday, 10 - 11 a.m.

Where: San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside What: Participants can interact with, feed and create enrichmentitems for the turtles who call the Discovery Center home.

Food and supplies are provided, and no registration is required for this program.

Wild Wednesdays

When: Every Wednesday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 - 5 p.m.

San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside Drive Wild Wednesdays will take place every Wednesday with a different wildlife theme each month. This free, kid-focused program includes education through natural history items, a self-guided activity, thematic color sheet, craft and more. No registration is required for this come-and-go program. FREE!

60+ Game Day

When: Meets every Monday- except City Holidays, 12:30 - 4 p.m.

What: Game materials for Bridge, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot, and 42 are provided. New members are welcome. We had a great response from people that want to learn to play Mahjong. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough people to teach them. If you know how to play Mahjong and are interested in helping others learn to play, please join us for Game Day on Mondays. We have also been asked to see if there are people interested in playing Pinochle, Euchre, Backgammon, Canasta, and regular dominoes. If you have any questions, or would like to play any of these games, call 512-393-8275 or email to [email protected]. Registration for Game Day is no longer required. Make sure you arrive on time to get in on a game!

Austin Bat Cave Folklore Writing Workshop

When: Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14 at 1 – 2:30 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: This program is for students in 8th-12th grade where students will learn about folklore and traditional stories that are rooted in the natural world. Participants will write their own original folktale or adaptation inspired by the local waterways and ecosystems. Registration required.

Active Balance

When: June 11 and June 25, 12 - 1 p.m. What: CHRISTUS HomeCare brings you our new balance class, Active Balance. Join us this month for a balance class that will improve your safety and decrease your risk of falls. This class is for those 60 and above, at all activity levels. It will improve your confidence, strength and flexibility while increasing mobility.

Zoomagination Animal Shows

Battletech – A Game of Armored Combat When: Thursday, June 13 & 27, 6 – 8 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Join us as we play Battletech, a tabletop wargame featuring giant robots battling for honor, glory, and the almighty C-Bill in the 31st Century. All supplies to play will be provided by the Library; rules and scenarios will be from the A Game of Armored Combat boxed set.

60+ S.M.A.S.H. Bowling Social When: Thursday, June 13, 2 - 4 p.m.

What: The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation and Sunset Bowling Lanes are hosting a Bowling Social each month, on Thursday afternoons. These bowling events are for ages 60 + and will be held from 2-4 PM at Sunset Bowling Lanes, 1304 HWY 123, The fee for this event is $5/person, which includes shoe rental and 2 games of bowling.

E5 Fitness

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Come enjoy a science-based functional fitness class. Every class is divided into 5 different time-based segments—each with a different focus. The segments are enable—endure—engage—exert—and rEcover.

Each participant controls the intensity of movement for themselves. E5 Fitness is based on a variability of movements, so your brain gets a workout along with your body! Instructor: Lynne Kypuros. Funded by St. David's Foundation; for ages 18 and up.

Silver Singers Group Sing-Along and Karaoke When: Friday, June 14, 1 p.m.

What: Calling all music lovers ages 60 and above! We changed up our karaoke program to include group sing-along songs as well as solo performances and now we are changing it up to include all adults aged 18 and up! So, if you suffer from stage fright and are not ready to grab the mic, that’s okay, you’re welcome to join us anyway and participate in some group sing-alongs. Not only will you have a great time, but research has shown that singing is also good for your health by boosting memory and your mood.

Murder On Lake Wineaux

When: Saturday, June 15 at 7 p.m.

What: Are you ready for a night of mystery and intrigue? Join us for Murder on Lake Wineaux, where you can sip wine, enjoy great company and put your detectives kills to the test! Don’t miss out on this thrilling event. Each attendee is assigned a character.

Any gender mix is welcome – just let us know when you get your tickets. There are NO SCRIPTS in this mystery. It is based on interactive dialogue among attendees who will have information about what they know and where they were when the deed was committed. A complimentary glass of house White or Red wine included with each ticket.
