A VIEW OF THE BIRDS PASSING BY

On Saturday, come see what Discovery Center specialist Niki Lake calls San Marcos “the Buc-ee’s for birds” at the third annual Migratory Bird Day Festival. Starting at 9 a.m. and running until 2 p.m., this family friendly event at the Discovery Center will feature bird walks, a migration obstacle course, a mobile zoo, an osprey fishing game, lots of fun photo ops and bird music sung by Molly Hayes. Plus, birds! Not only our local favorites like mockingbirds and red-shouldered hawks, but also the ones just stopping by on their way to points between. Depending on the weather, visitors to the Migratory Bird Day Festival could see painted buntings, golden-cheeked warblers and hummingbirds. Water will be provided, but for those wanting make an afternoon of it, pack a snack or even a picnic, then head over to the Discovery Center to learn more about why our area is so important and special for the birds.
