A PICKIN' AND A GRINNIN' UNDERNEATH THE OAK TREE

I know we've got an article in today's paper about the Rolling Oak's Music Festival this weekend (see page 2 for details), but I wanted to add a personal touch.

You see, my aunt has lived in Rolling Oaks, a subdivision between Wimberley and Kyle, for more than 30 years. This fundraiser, which helps maintain the community's modest pool and clubhouse, is a personal favorite. It is an eclectic neighborhood – pretty much in the boondocks – that attracts a certain type of person. That type of person happens to often be a musician, and they've got some of the best talent around. The famous, yet still unknown Friday Night Jam, which was part of Grammy Award winner Sarah Jarosz' musical roots, is held at the club house. Many of those incredible musicians will set up on this Saturday and Sunday on a tiny stage underneath one of the most gorgeous oak trees to pick and sing the day away in front of a small an intimate crowd. Make sure and bring your own chair. The music is free, but barbecue is for sale as part of the fundraiser. This low key event is worth the drive. If you've ever been a part of a picker's or songwriter's circle, this will be right up your alley.
