In-person fundraiser and announcement of new resources
Everyone is invited to the Bobcat Pride Scholarship Fund annual in-person fundraiser in celebration of its 14th birthday on Saturday, April 20 from 1 4 p.m. at Roughhouse Brewing.
The theme for this year’s birthday celebration is “Empowering Our Resilient Community” as BPSF announces new sources of support for the local LGBTQIA+ community.
This year, BPSF celebrates 14 years of dependability to the LGTBQIA+ residents in San Marcos and Hays County through donor impacts. This event is an inclusive, family-friendly celebration to demonstrate support for BPSF initiatives through fundraising.
This year’s celebration will be held at Roughhouse Brewing, located at 680 Oakwood Loop. Roughhouse Brewing has an affirming staff, seating under expansive oak trees, a full menu for food, and locally-crafted lagers, farmhouse ales and spontaneous cave beers.
A highlight of the event’s short program at 2:30 p.m. will be naming the Victor Saldivar Academic Scholarship. Saldivar’s family will be present and will speak about Saldivar’s legacy with BPSF.
Victor Saldivar contributed a unique melding of LGBTQIA+ advocacy and education to BPSF, TXST and the San Marcos community. As a first generation student and queer person of color, Saldivar used his experiences navigating higher education to mentor students as a way to express encouragement in pursuing their educational goals. Saldivar served as the BPSF Programming Chair between 2013 - 2015 while working as a residence director at Texas State University. Saldivar incorporated his passion for advocacy and education by involving students and community members in events to connect them with BPSF’s sources of support. He was a fierce educator and advocate.
During the program, BPSF will share highlights from the past fiscal year, hear from recent Jeremy O. Torres Emergency Stabilization Fund recipients, share news about paid internship opportunities and introduce new board members!
As always, the BPSF Birthday Bash will feature silent auction bundles with a variety of unique items up for bid. A donor will be matching all donations up to $2,000, doubling all donations to ensure the local LGBTQIA+ residents know there is a source of support for emergency stabilization grants, academic scholarships and paid internships.
The BPSF Birthday celebration is also part of the OUTLaw Pride Fest (https:// fb.me/e/4PSUkroeX) happening during the weekend all across venues in San Marcos. Los Gatos 512 (https:// linktr.ee/losgatos512) will contribute to the festivities by filling the air at Roughhouse Brewing all afternoon with Salsa, Cumbia, Bachata and more.
Attendees are welcome to learn more and RSVP (https://fb.me/e/3zlT1afnz) at the Facebook event page and stay tuned for announcements about special tributes, guests, and silent auction items. The Facebook event page can also be found by searching Bobcat Pride Scholarship Fund Birthday Bash.
