City welcomes Public Safety Communications Specialist

CITY OF SAN MARCOS

The city of San Marcos has selected Khameyah Taylor to serve as the Public Safety Communications Specialist. In this new role, Taylor will provide the community with information related to the San Marcos Police, Fire, Emergency Management and City Marshals Departments.

Part of the Communications & Intergovernmental Relations Department, the Public Safety Communications Specialist position was created to support and enhance communication, transparency, and trust in the community with an emphasis on the city’s public safety services.

“We recognize the important role that engaging with our community and providing timely and accurate information plays in building and maintaining trust with our community,” City Manager Stephanie Reyes said. “I am confident that Khameyah’s skills and the professional relationships she has established in the San Marcos community make her an ideal fit for this critical role.”

Taylor joins a growing Communications & IGR team, including three additional Communications Specialists, with a variety of skills encompassing media relations, video production, marketing, graphic design, and bilingual capabilities.

“Our department remains committed to enhancing the city’s presence in the San Marcos community and increasing opportunities for engagement and two-way communication with all of our neighbors,” Communications & IGR Director Lauren Surley said. “We are always looking for innovative solutions to communications challenges, and Khameyah’s addition to the team will allow us to identify and employ new outreach strategies to ensure our efforts are effective.”

Taylor earned a Bachelor of Science in Advertising from Texas State University and is experienced in developing and implementing communications strategies and marketing campaigns for non-profit organizations. Most recently, Taylor served as the Senior Marketing and Communications Coordinator at the Hays County Food Bank. Previously, she worked to promote educational opportunities and connect families to resources as the Marketing & Communications Coordinator for the non-profit organization Latinitas.

“I truly love the San Marcos community,” Taylor said. “I am looking forward to engaging with our neighbors and sharing important information through this role that will contribute to enhanced public safety initiatives, communication and transparency, and continue to make San Marcos a great place to live.”

Taylor obtained certifications in digital marketing and digital analytics. She began her role effective Tuesday, February 20.
